He wears a hearing aid in one of his ears and has caps on some of his teeth. He occasionally gets eczema, a skin disorder, on his fingers. Rountree's nickname is Cal. He may use the aliases Kyle Rountree and/or Fred Stokes.

Information on the case from local sources, may or may not be correct : Rountree was last heard from on September 16, 2004 as he was departing Perimeter Mall the vicinity of the 3700 block of Ashford-Dunwoody Road in Atlanta, Georgia. He may have been carrying a briefcase at the time.
He was on the way to visit one of his title pawn stores in Newnan, Georgia, but never arrived there. He has never been heard from again. His car, a dark blue four-door 1998 Pontiac Bonneville with Georgia license plates numbered APB 7793, is also missing.
Rountree's loved ones say it is uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning. He owned five title pawn stores in northern Georgia which were very important to him and they do not believe he would walk away from them without making arrangements for their upkeep.
His credit cards have not been used since his disappearance, and his passport was left behind. His last cellular phone call was made near a phone tower in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
Rountree's family hired a private investigator to try to find him after his disappearance; they complained that the police seemed uninterested in his case. They theorize that he met with foul play as the result of his title pawn businesses; he had been threatened occasionally because of his work.
However, there is no hard evidence of foul play in Rountree's case. His disappearance remains unsolved.

September 2021 updates and sources

A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are not known. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 25% of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. Several organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and imAge at the time of disappearance: s of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.
